Outlets in Italy: Which One to Visit from Milan, Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples (2026)
Outlets in Italy matched to your base city: Serravalle, Noventa di Piave, The Mall, Barberino, Castel Romano and La Reggia, with planning tips and how the VAT refund works.

Outlets in Italy sell Italian and international brands at reduced prices, usually in open-air villages outside the big cities. However, they are not all the same, and the right one depends on where you stay. So this guide matches the main outlets to your base city. It also explains how to plan the day and claim your tax refund.
The short answer: from Milan or Genoa, go to Serravalle Designer Outlet. From Venice, choose Noventa di Piave. From Florence, pick The Mall at Leccio for luxury labels or Barberino, north of the city. From Rome, then, head to Castel Romano, and from Naples to La Reggia at Marcianise. Also, if you live outside the EU, keep your receipts: purchases over €70 per invoice can qualify for a VAT refund.

Near Milan and Genoa: Serravalle
Serravalle Designer Outlet sits in Serravalle Scrivia, in Piedmont, roughly between Milan and Genoa. According to Wikipedia, it opened in 2000 (checked September 2026). Also, with about 185 shops, it is the largest McArthurGlen outlet in Italy. As a result, it suits shoppers who want many brands in one day. In addition, it works as a stop on a drive between Lombardy and the Italian Riviera. For more ideas, see our guide to the best day trips from Milan.
Near Venice: Noventa di Piave
Noventa di Piave Designer Outlet lies northeast of Venice, in the Veneto countryside. According to the same Wikipedia page, it opened in 2008 (checked September 2026). Because the historic center of Venice has no large shopping malls, this is the natural outlet day from the lagoon. Afterward, you can continue into the hills with a Prosecco Hills wine tour from Venice on another day. Also, read our best day trips from Venice.
Outlets in Italy around Florence
Florence has two very different options. First, The Mall, in Leccio in the town of Reggello, southeast of the city, focuses on luxury fashion houses; Wikipedia lists it among the sights of Reggello (checked September 2026). Second, Barberino Designer Outlet lies north of Florence at Barberino di Mugello, close to the A1 motorway. Since July 2024, according to Wikipedia, Promos Group manages it instead of McArthurGlen.
Florence is also a great city for leather. Therefore, before you spend a day at the outlets, compare prices with the workshops in town. Start with our guide to shopping for Italian leather. Then balance the day with a Chianti wine tour from Florence.
Near Rome and Naples: Castel Romano and La Reggia
Castel Romano Designer Outlet lies south of Rome, on the Via Pontina toward the coast. It opened in 2003, and it sits near Cinecittà World, so you could combine the two in one day. Meanwhile, La Reggia Designer Outlet, at Marcianise near Caserta, is the main outlet for Naples. It opened in 2010, and its name recalls the Royal Palace of Caserta, a short drive away. For the area, see our Rome travel guide and Naples travel guide.
Which of the outlets in Italy should you choose?
- If you have one free day in Milan: Serravalle, since it offers the most shops in one place.
- If you want luxury labels: The Mall, near Florence, because it bills itself as a luxury outlet.
- If you travel without a car: first check which outlet near your base publishes a shuttle timetable, then decide.
- If you are short on time: skip the outlets altogether and shop in the city center instead.
How to plan an outlet day
- Check transport first. Most outlets sit near motorway exits. Some run or promote shuttle buses from nearby cities, so check the outlet’s own site for the current timetable.
- Go on a weekday. After all, weekends and holidays bring the biggest crowds.
- Watch for the saldi, the official seasonal sales in winter and summer; regions set the exact dates each year.
- Bring your passport. You need it for tax-free shopping.
- Compare prices. Of course, not everything is cheaper than in city stores, especially new-season items.
Tax-free shopping at outlets in Italy
Do you live outside the European Union? Then you can often claim back part of the VAT on goods you take home. In Italy, the minimum is over €70 per invoice, a threshold in force since February 1, 2024. In addition, the goods must leave the EU with you by the end of the third month after the invoice date. Also, customs now validate invoices digitally, so there is no paper stamp. For the full procedure, read our guide to the VAT refund in Italy.
