One of the best-loved experiences in Tuscany, and deservedly. 4.8 across 4,329 reviews with 96 percent recommending is a serious body of evidence, the Vespas are automatic with no gears, and the price includes the bike, the helmet, fuel, third-party insurance, a guide and a food and wine tasting at the operator’s own country estate. At about $151 for six hours that is fair.
What you need to know before booking has nothing to do with any of that. There are three conditions, and each one has turned somebody’s day.
First: you must bring an original valid driver’s license. A copy or a photo is not accepted. That sentence is the provider’s, and it is the single most common way to lose a booking on a vehicle tour. If your license is in the hotel safe, it may as well be at home.
Second: the tour leader can end your participation on the spot. The provider states that previous scooter experience is recommended and that the leader reserves the right, at absolute discretion, to terminate the participation of any rider unable to ride safely. There is a safety briefing at the garage before you set off, which is where that judgement gets made.
Third: only third-party insurance is included, and you sign a waiver for damage to the Vespa caused by your own error or negligence. Drop the bike and the repair is a conversation you have with the operator, not with an insurer.
None of this is unreasonable for a tour that hands strangers a motorbike. It is simply the opposite of what a $151 booking button implies, and it should decide whether you book at all.
