Events in Italy in October revolve around the harvest. Truffles, new wine and food festivals fill the calendar, while Rome hosts its film festival and the month ends with Lucca Comics & Games and Halloween. This guide lists the seven events worth planning a trip around in 2026, with the dates read on each official site, and shows which ones overlap.

The short answer: for food, time your trip to the Alba White Truffle Fair (weekends from October 10) and the three food festivals: Ein Prosit in Udine (October 14–18), Terre di Pisa (October 16–18) and Ferrara Food Festival (October 30–November 1). For culture, the Rome Film Fest runs October 13–25. The busiest week is the last one: Lucca Comics & Games (October 28–November 1) and Halloween on Saturday, October 31.

The 96th Alba White Truffle Fair runs from October 10 to December 6, 2026, according to the official fair site. Its heart is the World Truffle Market in Alba’s old center. It opens on Saturdays and Sundays only, so plan a weekend; our Alba White Truffle Fair guide has the hours and ticket details.

The fair sits in the Langhe wine hills, so pair it with a Barolo wine tour. To go truffle hunting with a dog, see our guide to truffle hunting in Italy.

Rome Film Fest, October 13 to 25

The 21st Rome Film Fest takes place from October 13 to 25, 2026, according to the festival site. Its main venue is the Auditorium Parco della Musica, and unlike many film festivals, most screenings are open to the public. Read our Rome Film Festival guide for tickets and venues.

After a screening, Rome is at its best after dark: compare the Rome night tour and the Rome ghost tour.

Ein Prosit, Udine, October 14 to 18

Ein Prosit is not a beer fair. Its 27th edition fills Udine with curated wine tastings, special dinners and guest chefs from October 14 to 18, 2026, as announced on the official site. Many events need a separate booking, so read our Ein Prosit Udine guide before you go.

Terre di Pisa Food and Wine Festival, October 16 to 18

The Terre di Pisa Food&Wine Festival brings about 80 producers from the Pisa area to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, near Pisa Centrale station, from October 16 to 18, 2026. According to the official page, admission to the square is free. It opens from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

See our Terre di Pisa festival guide, and add the Leaning Tower with our guide to things to do in Pisa.

Lucca Comics & Games, October 28 to November 1

The biggest crowd of the month is in Lucca. Lucca Comics & Games runs from October 28 to November 1, 2026, and single-day tickets bought online cost from €26.50 on Wednesday to €34.50 on Saturday, fees included, according to the official ticket page (checked September 30, 2026). Read our Lucca Comics & Games guide.

On a quieter day, walk or cycle the city walls: see things to do in Lucca and the Lucca bike tour.

Ferrara Food Festival, October 30 to November 1

The Ferrara Food Festival turns the historic center of Ferrara into an open-air food fair from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1, 2026, open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day, according to the official site. Our Ferrara Food Festival guide covers what to eat and how to get there.

Halloween, Saturday, October 31

In 2026, Halloween falls on a Saturday, and All Saints’ Day, a public holiday, on Sunday, November 1. Italy marks the night with costume parties, theme-park events and ghost walks rather than trick-or-treating. Our guide to Halloween in Italy has the dates, and ghost tours in Italy compares the best-rated night walks.

How to plan around events in Italy in October

The calendar splits into three clusters, so you can build a trip around one of them:

  • Mid-October, October 13–18: the Rome Film Fest opens, Ein Prosit fills Udine and Terre di Pisa takes over Pisa’s main square. The Alba fair is open on the weekend of October 17–18.
  • Truffle weekends: the Alba market opens every Saturday and Sunday from October 10, so any October weekend in Piedmont works.
  • The last week, October 28–November 1: Lucca Comics & Games, the Ferrara Food Festival and Halloween overlap, and November 1 is a public holiday. Book trains and rooms early for Lucca.

The festival season continues into the next month: see events in Italy in November.

Traveling a little earlier? Italy in September brings the grape harvest, warm days and thinner crowds than August.
