A honeymoon in Italy is usually planned around places: Positano, Venice, Rome, the Tuscan hills. What couples remember, though, are a few hours that belong only to them. So this guide picks the private experiences worth booking for a honeymoon, compares what each one costs and includes, and flags what each one leaves out.

Last updated: October 1, 2026. Prices, ratings and inclusions read on Viator on that date.

The short answer: on the Amalfi Coast, book a private boat, either at sunset or for a whole day. In Venice, a photo shoot that ends in a gondola. In Rome, dinner with opera in a palace on Piazza Navona. Expect to pay from about $174 per person for a boat for two around Capri to about $1,502 per boat for a full private day at sea.

How we picked

Every experience here is private or sold for two people, and each one has a rating of 4.5 or higher on Viator with at least 40 reviews. It also states what is included and offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Where we already compare two versions of an experience on a page of its own, we link to that page instead of repeating it. We read ratings and prices on October 1, 2026.

Amalfi Coast and Capri: a boat of your own

Two recent reviewers of the private sunset cruise from Positano booked it on their honeymoon. One in July 2025 spent it “celebrating our honeymoon” with Prosecco on board, and another in September 2026 called it the perfect end to theirs. However, in Positano the sun sets behind the mountains, so you watch the town turn gold rather than the sun meet the sea. For a whole day instead, the private full day at sea holds 5.0 across 254 reviews, from about $1,502 per boat for up to 12 (checked October 2026). Our Amalfi Coast private boat tour comparison sets the two side by side.

On Capri, the private boat around Capri for two takes a maximum of two people per booking for about two hours, from about $174 per person (checked October 2026). It passes the Green and Red grottoes and the Faraglioni, with soft drinks, water and snorkeling gear on board. It is rated 4.5 across 147 reviews, lower than our other picks.

Good to know: the boat only passes the Blue Grotto, because the supplier says the line to enter does not fit a two-hour tour. Also, if you are coming from Positano, the supplier suggests a slot at noon or later, since early-morning ferries are often canceled. For a bigger private boat with more time, see our Capri private boat tour comparison.

Venice: photos in a gondola, then the basilica after dark

The romantic Venice photo shoot with a gondola starts with an hour of photos in the city, then moves into a private gondola for 30 minutes. It holds 5.0 across 95 reviews, from about $343 per group of up to four (checked October 2026). In addition, the listing promises 65 retouched photos by email link the same day.

The catch is the gondola itself: the listing says the rental is not included and costs €90, a rate it says the City of Venice sets. So budget for it on top. In the evening, end the day inside St Mark’s Basilica after closing, with a private guide and almost no one else there. Our Venice private tour comparison has the details.

Rome: dinner with opera on Piazza Navona

The opera dinner in Palazzo Pamphilj takes place in a palace hall overlooking Piazza Navona. First comes a welcome aperitif, then a candlelight dinner with wine, while singers perform famous arias before dinner and between courses. It starts at 7:00 pm and lasts two to three hours, from about $309 per person (checked October 2026). It is rated 4.9 across 41 reviews.

The music is introduced in English, and the evening ends with a toast. So arrive on time, since the concert opens the evening. The listing also marks it as wheelchair accessible.

Tuscany and the lakes: wine and water

For a day in the vineyards, the private Brunello and Vino Nobile day from Florence comes with a guide and a driver, so neither of you has to drive after the tastings. It holds 4.9 across 102 reviews, from about $896 per group (checked October 2026); see our private wine tour in Tuscany comparison. Further north, a four-hour private boat on Lake Como passes Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta on the way to Bellagio. It holds 5.0 across 116 reviews, from about $1,328 per boat; our Lake Como private boat tour comparison has the rest.

Celebrating an anniversary instead

The same experiences work for an anniversary. A reviewer of the Venice photo shoot, married for 35 years, wrote that it made them feel like they were on their honeymoon. On the hot-air balloon flight from Siena, two reviewers celebrated their 30th and 40th wedding anniversaries, although the basket is shared with other passengers. Our hot air balloon in Tuscany comparison covers it. If you plan to propose rather than celebrate, see our guide on how to propose in Italy.

How to plan honeymoon experiences in Italy

  • Book early. On Viator, travelers book these experiences from about 42 days ahead for the Lake Como boat to 109 days for the private day at sea off Positano, on average.
  • Check per person or per group. A boat priced per group often costs less per couple than it looks, while a dinner priced per person doubles.
  • Read what is included. Gondola rides, the Blue Grotto and drinks are often extras.
  • Keep it flexible. Every experience in the table offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before, which helps when the sea is rough.
  • Leave gaps. One booked experience a day is plenty on a honeymoon.

Questions travelers ask

What is the most romantic experience for a honeymoon in Italy?

For most couples, a private boat on the Amalfi Coast: the sunset cruise from Positano for a couple of hours, or a full private day at sea. Both count honeymooners among their reviewers. In Venice, a photo shoot that ends in a gondola is a quieter alternative.

How much do honeymoon experiences in Italy cost?

In this selection, from about $174 per person for a two-hour boat for two around Capri to about $1,502 per boat for a full private day on the Amalfi Coast (checked October 2026). An opera dinner in Rome starts at about $309 per person.

Is the gondola included in the Venice photo shoot?

No. The listing says the gondola rental costs €90 on top of the photo shoot. The photographer still works on board for 30 minutes.

Does the Capri boat for two go inside the Blue Grotto?

No, it only passes it. The supplier says the line to enter does not fit a two-hour tour and suggests a three-hour tour if you want to go in.

How far ahead should we book honeymoon experiences in Italy?

On Viator, travelers book them from about 42 to 109 days ahead on average. Since every experience in the table offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before, booking early costs little.

Are these experiences good for an anniversary too?

Yes. Reviewers booked the Venice photo shoot for a 35th wedding anniversary and the balloon flight from Siena for a 30th and a 40th.
