For Ciampino to Rome you have four options: the Airlink bus and train for €2.70, a direct shuttle bus to Termini, a local bus plus the metro, or a taxi at a fixed €40 to the historic center. The airport code is CIA. Below, we compare the cost, the time and who each option suits.

Last updated: October 21, 2026. We checked every fare and timetable below on the official pages of Trenitalia, ATRAL, Aeroporti di Roma, Roma Mobilità, ATAC and the bus companies on that date.

Ciampino Airlink: the bus and train combo

The Airlink is the best value for most travelers. First, an ATRAL bus takes you from the forecourt in front of the airport (Aeroporti di Roma lists stop 07) to Ciampino train station in about 10 minutes. Then a regional train runs to Roma Termini in about 15 minutes, according to Roma Mobilità.

One ticket covers both legs. It costs €2.70 and is valid for one trip, as Trenitalia’s Ciampino Airlink page states. Children under 4 travel free, and so does luggage of any size. You can buy it on the Trenitalia website or app, at the self-service machines in the station, or at Lottomatica, SisalPay and Banca5 retailers. Note that Trenitalia doesn’t sell the bus leg on its own.

On weekdays, ATRAL’s timetable shows the first Airlink bus leaving the airport at 5:55 am and the last at 11:30 pm. On public holidays (festivi), buses run from 6:55 am to 10:30 pm. The gaps between buses vary, so check the timetable before you land late.

Direct shuttle buses from Ciampino to Termini

Several companies also run coaches from the airport to Termini. According to Aeroporti di Roma, they leave from the stops in front of International Departures. You can buy tickets online, from agents in the Arrivals hall or on board.

  • Rome Airport Bus: no intermediate stops, about 40 minutes, and at Termini it stops on Via Giovanni Giolitti. Its timetable shows the first bus to Termini at 5:55 am and the last at 10:30 pm. Its fare page lists more than one price, so check the current fare when you book. Children up to 6 ride free.
  • Terravision: about 40 to 45 minutes, with adult one-way tickets from €6.50 and returns at €13. Children under 4 ride free, and you book online or in the app.
  • SIT Bus Shuttle: serves Termini (Via Marsala), the Vatican area (Via Crescenzio) and Circonvallazione Aurelia. We couldn’t confirm its current timetable and fares, so check them on its website first.

However, a coach sits in the same traffic as a car, so allow extra time at rush hour.

The cheapest way: local bus plus the metro

If every euro counts, take an ATRAL bus to Anagnina, the end of Metro line A. The ride takes about 20 minutes and costs €1.20, and you can buy the ticket at the airport info desk or on board. It leaves from Gate 2. On weekdays, ATRAL’s timetable shows the first bus from the airport at 8:15 am and the last at 10:40 pm, while on holidays it runs from 5:05 am to 11:00 pm. Some runs go via Ciampino station and take about 10 minutes longer. Next, a standard ATAC ticket (BIT) costs €1.50 and lasts 100 minutes. It covers one metro ride, including changes between lines without leaving the turnstiles. Validate it when you enter the metro and again at each change. You can also tap a contactless card enabled for online payments.

ATAC buses also leave the airport: the 520 goes to Cinecittà on Metro A and the 720 to Laurentina on Metro B. However, we couldn’t confirm the 520 and 720 timetables, and with bags the changes make this harder than the Airlink.

Taxi from Ciampino to Rome: the €40 fixed fare

Rome sets a fixed taxi fare from Ciampino: €40 per car to anywhere inside the Aurelian Walls, which covers the historic center. The same €40 applies to Tiburtina and Ostiense stations, and a ride to Fiumicino airport costs €55. Also, these prices include all supplements, as Roma Mobilità and Aeroporti di Roma both state.

The fare only applies if you go straight to the address you gave, without detours. Outside the walls, the meter runs as usual. Use the official rank at Arrivals and look for white cars with a TAXI sign, the city crest and a license number. Roma Mobilità’s taxi page doesn’t confirm card payment, so ask the driver before you set off. Also, Aeroporti di Roma notes that fares can change without notice and warns against unlicensed drivers.

A taxi costs more than the Airlink, even for a group, but the €40 fare is per car and takes you straight to your address inside the walls. If you’d rather know the price before you land, a private transfer from Ciampino to central Rome can be booked ahead.

Arriving late at night

After the last Airlink and shuttle buses, your options shrink. For travel after midnight, Aeroporti di Roma lists ATRAL buses, taxis and car sharing (Free2Move and Enjoy). So for a late flight, the simplest choice is a taxi at the fixed fare or a transfer booked in advance.

Which option should you choose?

  • Solo or as a couple with normal bags: the Airlink. It’s cheap, quick and drops you at Termini.
  • Staying near Termini and you’d rather not change: a direct shuttle bus.
  • Three or four people, or a hotel in the center: a taxi at €40 per car.
  • Late arrival or small children: a taxi or a transfer booked ahead.
