How much is the Florence tourist tax per night?

Florence charges one citywide rate per type of lodging, so the neighborhood makes no difference. Hotel rates have been the same since April 1, 2023, while B&Bs and short lets rose to €6.00 on February 1, 2025.

Type of lodgingPer person, per night
Hotels and tourist residences 5★ / 4★ / 3★ / 2★ / 1★€8.00 / €7.00 / €6.00 / €4.50 / €3.50
B&Bs, guesthouses, holiday apartments and short lets€6.00
Historic residences (residenze d’epoca)€7.00
Residences, 4 / 3 / 2 keys€7.00 / €6.00 / €4.50
Agriturismi, 5 to 1 sunflowers€8.00 to €3.50
Youth hostels and holiday houses€4.00
Campsites€3.50

We took these figures from the City of Florence tourist tax page, so you can check them yourself. The current table comes from City Executive decision no. 535 of December 10, 2024.

How much will you pay in total?

So what does the tax add to a typical stay? We calculated these examples from the official rates:

  • A couple, 3 nights in a 4-star hotel: 2 people × 3 nights × €7.00 = €42.00.
  • A couple, 7 nights in a B&B: 2 people × 7 nights × €6.00 = €84.00.
  • A family with two children under 12, 5 nights in a 3-star hotel: only the 2 adults pay, so 2 × 5 × €6.00 = €60.00.

Who is exempt from the Florence city tax?

The city regulation lists these exemptions (the armed forces exemption applies from November 1, 2026):

  • children under 12;
  • students enrolled at the University of Florence;
  • people with a certified severe disability and one companion;
  • up to two people assisting each hospitalized patient, and day-hospital patients;
  • police, armed forces, firefighters and civil protection staff on duty;
  • property staff staying for work, and people housed for emergency relief.

How do you pay the tourist tax in Florence?

You pay the tax to the hotel or host, who then gives you a receipt. Most exemptions need a self-declaration on the city’s form.

If you book on Airbnb, Airbnb collects the tax when you book, according to the city. However, some property types pay more than the standard €6.00, so the host may ask you for the difference. Finally, school groups and under-16 athletes in organized groups pay half.

Does the Florence tax apply in Fiesole or the Chianti?

No, because the Florence rates apply only inside the City of Florence. In contrast, Fiesole, Bagno a Ripoli and the Chianti towns set their own taxes, if they have one.

Also, since July 2024 the city has banned new short lets in the UNESCO historic center. Separately, under national rules every legal listing must show its ID code (CIN).

Will the Florence tourist tax change in 2027?

The city had not announced any rate change for 2027 as of October 20, 2026. Indeed, its 2026 amendments only added an exemption for the armed forces, in force from November 1, 2026. So check back before you travel, because we update this page when that changes.
