Uffizi Gallery Guided Tour: 8:15 Entry or Later in the Day?

Uffizi guided tour compared: two small-group tours capped at nine, an 8:15 entry or a cheaper slot at any hour.

Tuscany Florence Art & History Museums Art & History Museums Culture lovers First-time Visitors

The Uffizi is the one museum in Florence where a guide changes the visit most: it is enormous, and it is crowded. Two small-group tours on Viator share the same rating, 4.7, and the same cap of nine people. One puts you in at 8:15 in the morning; the other runs through the day for about $25 less. The difference that should decide it is not the price. It is the cancellation policy. Below, we compare two ways to book an Uffizi guided tour, side by side.

The verdict

The two tours are closer than their prices suggest. Both cap the group at nine, both include the entrance ticket and a guide, both are wheelchair accessible, and both hold 4.7. The daytime tour has far more reviews, 5,816 against 771, and a longer tail of complaints; the early tour has fewer, with a similar share of five-star ratings.

What the early tour buys is time of day. Its earliest departure is at 8:15 am, and its reviewers keep coming back to the same point: fewer people in the most famous rooms. One daytime reviewer, by contrast, advises booking off-peak because lines were long and the galleries crowded.

Our pick is the early entry, with one condition: book it only once your Florence dates are fixed. It can be canceled for free up to 3 days before the tour, not the usual 24 hours. If your plans could still move, the daytime tour’s 24-hour policy and lower price make it the safer booking, and its free time inside after the tour lets you go back to what you liked.

THE EARLY TOUR HAS A 3-DAY CANCELLATION WINDOW

The early tour’s provider allows a full refund only if you cancel at least 3 days in advance. Most tours in this catalog, including the daytime Uffizi tour, allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before. If you are building a trip around trains, weather or other bookings that might change, that difference matters more than the $25.

BRING ID THAT MATCHES YOUR BOOKING

Both listings state that each traveler must present a valid passport or ID whose name matches the booking, and that full names must be provided when you book. A voucher missing names can mean refused entry. Security has metal detectors; the daytime tour’s provider says to expect 10 to 15 minutes there.

Which one is for you?

Take the early entry if

  • Your Florence dates are fixed and you can commit three days out.
  • You want the most famous rooms before the day’s crowds build.
  • You would like the longer option: a 2.5-hour version runs at 9:00 am for about $132.
  • You prefer to start the day with the museum and keep the afternoon free.
  • You would rather pay more for a quieter visit.

Take the daytime tour if

  • Your plans could still change: free cancellation runs to 24 hours before.
  • You want the lower price, about $79 against about $104.
  • You want free time inside the gallery after the tour, which is included.
  • You need a Spanish-language tour at a similar price, or a private guide.
  • You are not an early riser and do not want to be.

What each price covers

The early entry, from about $104

Included: a professional certified guide; a small group of nine at most; a timed entry ticket; and headphones for groups larger than four. On the October date we checked, departures were at 8:15 am and 9:00 am for the 1.5-hour tour at about $104, and at 9:00 am for a 2.5-hour tour at about $132. Italian- and French-language departures cost more.

Not included: gratuities, hotel pickup and bottled water. The provider lists the direct entrance ticket at €29, which is already included in the price. Free cancellation only up to 3 days before the tour.

The daytime tour, from about $79

Included: entrance tickets; priority entrance; a professional guide; headsets; extra time inside the gallery after the tour; and all taxes and fees. English and Spanish departures run through the day; a private tour was quoted at about $198 per person for two travelers on a September date.

Not included: hotel pickup, food and drinks. The provider lists the Uffizi entrance ticket at €29 per person, included in the price. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the tour.

Where each one starts

  • Early entry: in front of the statue of Petrarch in the Uffizi square, 15 minutes before your departure time. One reviewer found the meeting point “not entirely clear” but found the guide without trouble.
  • Daytime tour: Piazzale degli Uffizi 6, close to gate 1, in front of the statue of Nicola Pisano. Arrive 20 minutes before your slot so you do not lose it.
  • Both are wheelchair and stroller accessible, and both end inside the gallery or in the square, a few minutes’ walk from the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria.
  • Bring a passport or ID matching the name on the booking for every traveler.

Ratings and review counts read on each Viator product page, September 2026. Totals combine Viator and Tripadvisor.

On the early entry

The early morning tour is hands-down the best time to go! Do yourself a favor and get up early!

Daphne_M, April 2026, via Viator

The time was great as the crowds were less!

Teri_R, May 2026, via Viator

On the daytime tour

The check in was very smooth and efficient!

Kim_H, September 2026, via Viator

Do this tour during off peak times – lines were long and galleries were crowded. Our guide was knowledgeable.

Kristilie_S, September 2026, via Viator

The complaint that does appear on the daytime tour is about pace rather than crowds: one reviewer gave two stars because the guide spent too long on a few works. With nine people or fewer you can ask the guide to move on, and the free time afterward is there for the rooms you want more of.

How either fits a Florence trip

The Uffizi takes a morning, so pair it with the Accademia and Michelangelo’s David on another day. Our guide to the Accademia Gallery covers that visit, and the Florence walking tour with David and the Duomo combines the two. For the countryside, compare the Chianti wine tour or a Cinque Terre day trip. Everything else is in the Florence travel guide.

After the gallery: compare the two best-reviewed Florence food tours, an Oltrarno tasting walk or a full Tuscan meal on foot.

Questions travelers ask

Is a guided tour of the Uffizi worth it?

For most first-time visitors, yes. The gallery is large and crowded, and both tours here keep the group to nine and include the entrance ticket. The providers list the ticket alone at €29, so the rest of the price is the guide and the booking.

What time does the early Uffizi tour start?

The earliest departure on the early-entry tour is 8:15 am, with another at 9:00 am. Meet in front of the statue of Petrarch in the Uffizi square 15 minutes before.

Can I cancel the Uffizi tour?

The daytime tour can be canceled for a full refund up to 24 hours in advance. The early-entry tour only up to 3 days in advance.

Do I need my passport for the Uffizi?

Yes. Both listings state that every traveler must show a valid passport or ID matching the name given at booking, and that full names must be provided when you book.

Is the Uffizi tour wheelchair accessible?

Both tours are listed as wheelchair accessible and stroller accessible.

How long is the Uffizi tour?

Both run about 1.5 hours. The early-entry tour also has a 2.5-hour version at 9:00 am, and the daytime tour includes free time inside the gallery after the guided part.

If your Florence dates will not move, take the 8:15 entry: the quieter rooms are what you are paying for. If they might, take the daytime tour and book a morning slot. Either way, write every traveler’s full name into the booking exactly as it appears on their passport.
