The Trento Christmas market opens on November 20, 2026, a week before the South Tyrol markets, and runs every day until January 6, 2027. The wooden huts fill Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra in the old town, about 10 minutes on foot from the station, and the market has run since 1993.

Here are the 2026 dates and hours, what you will find in the two squares, how to get there by train or car and where to stay.

  • Dates: November 20, 2026 to January 6, 2027, open every day.
  • Where: Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra, in the historic center.
  • Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; the food court stays open until 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • From the station: about 10 minutes on foot, according to the official market site.

Opening hours of the Trento Christmas market

The official site (natale.visittrento.it) lists these times for 2026-27 (checked October 2026):

  • Every day: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: the food court area in both squares stays open until 9 p.m.
  • December 24 and 31, January 6: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • December 25: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

That makes Trento one of the few markets in the region open on Christmas Day. Bressanone, Merano and Rovereto close on December 25, so Trento is the one to plan for if you travel over the holiday.

What to find in Piazza Fiera and Piazza Mostra

Exhibitors come from across Trentino and Alto Adige. They sell ornaments, wooden and ceramic decorations, warm clothing, natural cosmetics, chocolate, honey and mountain cheeses, while the food court serves mulled wine and sweets. The official page lists 77 exhibitors in one place and 74 huts in another, so expect about 75.

The city also sells an official ceramic market mug at its info points, part of a plan to cut waste alongside compostable tableware and electricity from 100% renewable sources supplied by Dolomiti Energia.

Trento rewards a full day. Before the stalls get busy, walk to Piazza Duomo for the Fountain of Neptune and the cathedral, then the frescoed houses along Via Belenzani, all a few minutes from the market squares.

How to get to the Trento Christmas market

Trento station doubles as the bus station, and the market is about 10 minutes away on foot. City buses A, 1, 6 and 7 also run from Piazza Dante, in front of the station, toward the market squares.

  • From Verona: about 50 minutes to 1 hour 25 minutes, depending on the train.
  • From Bolzano: about 30 minutes to 1 hour.

These journey times come from rail booking sites and unofficial timetable summaries, not from Trenitalia. The timetable changes in mid-December, so confirm your train on Trenitalia before you travel.

If you drive, last season the city ran free park-and-ride lots at Ex Italcementi and Zuffo, linked to the center by frequent shuttle buses (line N for Zuffo), plus a low-cost lot at Monte Baldo on line 19. Check the official market site for the 2026 arrangements before you set off.

Combine Trento with other Christmas markets

Trento is the best base for the Trentino markets. The Rovereto Christmas market is 15 minutes south by train, and the Levico Terme Christmas market in the Habsburg park is on the Valsugana line. Bolzano is under an hour north, so you can add the Bolzano Christmas market.
