The trip from Naples airport to city center hotels takes 15 to 35 minutes, depending on where you sleep. Capodichino airport sits just northeast of the historic center, so every option is short. This guide compares the Alibus shuttle, the fixed taxi fares and the onward routes to Sorrento, Positano and the ferries.

The short answer: the Alibus shuttle is the cheapest way from Naples airport to the city center. It costs €5 and reaches Napoli Centrale in about 15 minutes, then continues to the Molo Beverello ferry port (checked September 2026). With luggage or a group, however, a licensed taxi is simpler. The city sets fixed fares: €21 to Centrale, €24 to Molo Beverello and €28.50 to the seafront hotels on Via Partenope, supplements included.

In short, the Alibus wins on price and the taxi wins on comfort. Also, from the airport there is no train yet. So the real choice is bus or car, and then, for the coast, bus, ferry or taxi.

Which way from Naples airport to the city center suits you

Choose the Alibus if you travel light and your hotel is near Centrale, Piazza Municipio or the port. It is also the easy link to a same-day ferry.

Choose a taxi if you are two or more people with bags. In fact, four Alibus tickets cost €20, almost the same as the €21 fixed taxi fare to Centrale.

Choose a taxi to your door if you are staying in the historic center or the Spanish Quarter. The lanes are steep and cobbled, so dragging a suitcase from a bus stop is hard work.

Choose the Curreri bus if you are heading straight to Sorrento and do not need to see Naples first. Similarly, it suits a first stop in Pompeii.

Choose a private transfer if you are going to Positano or Amalfi with a family. Above all, agree the price and the drop-off point in writing.

Alibus: the shuttle from Naples airport to the city center and port

The Alibus is the airport shuttle run by ANM, the Naples city transport company. According to ANM (checked September 2026), it stops at Piazza Garibaldi (Napoli Centrale), Immacolatella/Porta di Massa inside the port, and Molo Angioino/Beverello. Buses leave at least every 15 minutes.

The same page gives the timings. The first bus leaves the airport at 5:30 and the last at midnight. Then the ride to Centrale takes about 15 minutes, and the ride to the port about 35 minutes. As a result, the Alibus works for almost every flight except very late arrivals.

Alibus tickets and tips

  • Price. A single Alibus ticket costs €5, according to ANM (checked September 2026). Note that the ANM page carries no date, so check it again close to travel.
  • Where to buy. You can buy on board from the driver, at machines by the terminal exits, or in apps such as UnicoCampania and MyCicero.
  • Validate. Stamp or validate the ticket as soon as you board. Then keep it until you get off, because inspectors check.

Finally, Centrale is the main hub for the rest of your trip. From there, Metro Line 1 runs to Toledo, Dante and Municipio. Also, the Circumvesuviana to Pompeii and Sorrento leaves from the same square. If you are arriving by train instead, see our guide to the Rome to Naples train.

Taxi from Naples airport to the city center: the fixed fares

Naples sets fixed taxi fares, called tariffe predeterminate, for the main routes from the airport. According to the City of Naples taxi tariff sheet, approved in June 2024 (checked September 2026), the fixed fares from the airport are:

  • Napoli Centrale / Piazza Garibaldi: €21.
  • Port / Molo Beverello / Piazza Municipio: €24.
  • Via Partenope and the seafront hotels: €28.50.

These prices are per car, not per person. In addition, the city sheet says they already include the radio taxi call, night and holiday supplements, luggage, animals and the airport supplement. However, motorway tolls and a €5 minivan supplement are extra.

How to take a taxi at the airport

  • Use the official rank. Take a white licensed taxi from the rank outside arrivals, not a ride offered inside the terminal.
  • Ask for the fixed fare first. Say the destination and the words tariffa predeterminata (fixed fare) before the car moves.
  • Other addresses. The fixed list covers only the routes named in it. So for a B&B in the historic center, agree the fare or watch the meter from the start.
  • Four or more with big bags? Ask for a minivan and expect the €5 supplement.

Tipping is optional on a fixed fare. For more, see our guide to tipping in Italy. Also, check your hotel bill against our Italy tourist tax guide, because Naples charges a city tax per night.

Private transfer or car rental

A private transfer from Naples airport to the city center suits families, late arrivals and anyone going on to the coast. The driver meets you in arrivals and takes you to the door, as far as traffic rules allow. There is no official fare for this service. So agree the price, the pickup time and the luggage allowance in writing.

By contrast, renting a car at the airport rarely makes sense for a Naples stay. The historic center has limited traffic zones, and parking is hard. Also, the coast road to Positano is narrow and busy in season. If you still plan to drive, read our guide to driving in Italy first.

From the airport to Sorrento, Positano and the Amalfi Coast

Many travelers skip the city and head straight for the coast. In that case, you have three routes: a direct bus to Sorrento, the Alibus to the port and a ferry, or the train from Centrale. Our full guide to getting from Naples to Positano compares every route in detail, so here is the short version.

Curreri bus: airport to Sorrento

Curreri runs a direct coach from the airport to Sorrento. According to Curreri (checked September 2026), it stops at Pompeii, Castellammare, Vico Equense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento and Sant’Agnello before Sorrento station. The fare is €13 to Sorrento, and the ride takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

  • Departures from the airport: 9:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:30, 16:30, 18:00 and 19:30 on the current timetable.
  • Where: the bus boards at the tourist bus parking area. Be there 10 minutes early.
  • Booking: Curreri takes reservations up to 4 hours before each departure. It also warns that times can slip in high season.

Other companies also link the airport with Salerno and beyond. The airport operator’s bus page lists them, including a Pintour service toward Vietri and the Amalfi Coast (checked September 2026). However, check each operator’s own timetable before you rely on it.

Alibus plus ferry from Molo Beverello

Ferries to Sorrento, Capri and Positano leave from Molo Beverello, the last Alibus stop. For example, NLG sails from Naples to Positano from April 1 to November 3, 2026, for €32 one way plus €5 per bag, according to NLG (checked September 2026). NLG also sails to Sorrento year-round, with a reduced winter schedule, according to its Naples-Sorrento page.

Ferry timetables change with the seasons, so see our Amalfi Coast ferries guide for operators and luggage rules. Also, allow a buffer after landing: the Alibus ride to the port takes about 35 minutes, plus traffic.

Train from Centrale: the Circumvesuviana

The Circumvesuviana is the regional railway to Herculaneum, Pompeii and Sorrento. First, take the Alibus or a taxi to Centrale, then follow the signs to the Circumvesuviana platforms. Note one fall change: EAV suspends the faster Campania Express tourist train from October 1, 2026, until further notice, according to EAV (checked September 2026). Regular Circumvesuviana trains still run.

Is there a metro from Naples airport to the city center?

Not yet. A Metro Line 1 station is being built at the airport. However, the Naples metro company still lists its opening as “coming soon” (checked September 2026). So for now, the Alibus or a taxi is the way from Naples airport to the city center. Once the station opens, it will link the airport directly with Line 1 stops such as Garibaldi, Toledo and Municipio.

Your first evening in Naples

After the short ride from Naples airport to the city center, keep the first evening simple. For example, a Naples street food tour covers pizza, fried snacks and pastries in the old streets. To compare it with other options, see the best food tours in Naples. Alternatively, a Naples underground tour shows the tunnels and cisterns under the historic center. It is also a good plan if your flight lands in the afternoon.

If you have more time, our Naples itinerary plans one to three days by area. Our guide to what to do in Naples lists the sights. Planning Pompeii? Then read Pompeii from Rome or Naples for the train and ticket logic.
