The verdict

The two are level on rating, so choose by where you are staying. The old town dinner class is our pick. It starts at 4:00 pm at the Scuola di Cucina di Lella, a cooking school on Via Fontebranda in central Siena. You make a complete Tuscan menu from appetizer to dessert, including fresh pasta by hand, then eat it for dinner with local red wine (a quarter liter per person). You walk there, and it is listed as wheelchair accessible.

The countryside lunch class costs a little less and runs at midday. It is held at the cooking school’s location in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena, so you need your own way there: hotel pickup is not included. You cook in a small group and eat what you made for lunch, with drinks and a glass of wine. It is not wheelchair accessible.

Both offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

NO CAR?

Stay with the old town class: it is on Via Fontebranda, inside the city, and you walk there. The countryside class needs a car or a taxi. For the city itself, compare the Siena walking tour options.
