How much will you pay in total?
So what does the tax add to a typical stay? We calculated these examples from the official rates:
- A couple, 3 nights in a 4-star hotel: 2 people × 3 nights × €6.00 = €36.00.
- A couple, 7 nights in a B&B: 2 people × 7 nights × €5.50 = €77.00.
- A family with two children aged 14 and under, 4 nights in a 3-star hotel: only the 2 adults pay, so 2 × 4 × €5.50 = €44.00.

Who is exempt from the Naples city tax?
The city says the tax applies to non-residents older than 14. Its regulation also exempts, among others:
- children aged 14 and under, and residents of Naples;
- day-hospital patients, one companion for each hospitalized patient, and both parents of a sick child;
- people with a certified disability of at least 80% and one companion;
- coach drivers and one guide for every 25 group members;
- relief volunteers, police housed for duty, and people housed at the request of a public body.
How do you pay the tourist tax in Naples?
Usually you pay the tax to the hotel or host at check-out, and they give you a receipt.
However, some booking platforms have agreements with the city. In that case the platform collects the tax for the host, according to the city’s tourist tax page.
Does the Naples tax apply on the Amalfi Coast or Capri?
No, because the Naples rates apply only inside the City of Naples.
Instead, Capri, Sorrento, Positano and the other coastal towns set their own taxes. So if you split your stay, you pay each town’s rate.
Will the Naples tourist tax change in 2027?
The city had not announced any change for 2027 as of October 20, 2026. So check back before you travel, because we update this page when that changes.
