Castel Sant’Angelo Tickets 2026: Prices, the €5 Monday, ID Rules and Hours
Castel Sant'Angelo tickets cost €18 from July 2026, with a €5 first-Monday afternoon until December, free entry for under-18s and a personal ticket that needs ID.

Castel Sant’Angelo tickets changed twice in 2026. The full price went up to €18 on July 1, and a cheaper €5 afternoon ticket now runs on the first Monday of each month until December. So older guides may still quote the old prices. This page sets out what a ticket costs today, who gets in free, how the personal ticket works and when a guided visit is worth it.
The short answer: a full ticket costs €18 and a reduced one €2, while under-18s go in free. Book on the official CoopCulture site, with the name of each visitor, and bring an original ID. On the first Monday afternoon of each month until December 7, 2026, a special €5 ticket applies from 2 pm to 8 pm.
Last updated: October 1, 2026. Prices and rules checked on the official sites on that date.

Ticket prices and who goes in free
From July 1, 2026, the full ticket costs €18 and the reduced ticket €2, according to the decree of the Rome national museums office, which runs both Castel Sant’Angelo and the Pantheon. Under-18s and the other categories exempt by law go in free. The €2 reduced rate follows the national rule for state museums, which applies it to EU citizens aged 18 to 25.
In addition, Castel Sant’Angelo takes part in Italy’s free first Sunday for state museums; our guide to free museum days in Italy lists the dates and the catch. For how Rome’s other sights compare, see our Italy museum ticket prices guide.
The €5 first-Monday afternoons
The castle normally closes on Mondays. However, from August 3 to December 7, 2026, it opens on the first Monday of each month from 2 pm to 8 pm, with last entry at 7 pm. For that slot, the museum office set a special full ticket of €5, while young visitors up to 25 pay €2 and under-18s still go in free. In other words, it is the cheapest way in this year, short of the free Sunday.
The remaining dates in 2026 are October 5, November 2 and December 7. On those afternoons, the full ticket costs less than a third of the usual price.
Two house museums included until December 31
Until December 31, 2026, the Castel Sant’Angelo ticket also gets you into two smaller museums run by the same office: the Hendrik Christian Andersen House Museum and the Boncompagni Ludovisi House Museum. You get one entry to each, on the same day as the castle or in the two days after.
How to book Castel Sant’Angelo tickets
The official ticket for individuals is sold on the CoopCulture site, for groups of up to nine people, at €18 per adult (checked October 2026). The ticket is personal: you enter each visitor’s name when you buy it. Then, at the entrance, everyone shows the ticket and an original ID. If the details do not match, you are turned away without a refund.
If a name changes, you can switch it once, at least 24 hours before the visit, through the call center or online. So book with the names exactly as they appear on each passport.
Opening hours
Castel Sant’Angelo opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 7:30 pm, with last admission at 6:30 pm, according to the official ticket page (checked October 1, 2026). It is closed on Mondays, except for the first-Monday afternoons above. Leave time for the top terrace at the end, where the view takes in St Peter’s and the Tiber.
On your own or with a guide
On your own, the €18 ticket is all you need. A guide is worth it if you want the story of the building, from Hadrian’s tomb to papal fortress and prison.

The Castel Sant’Angelo guided tour with skip-the-line access lasts about two hours, with a guide, headsets and the admission fee included. It holds 4.8 across 96 reviews, from about $51 per person (checked October 2026), and you can cancel free up to 24 hours before. The guide meets you on the Ponte Sant’Angelo. As with the official ticket, you must bring an original ID.
The castle stands a short walk from St Peter’s, so it pairs well with a morning at the Vatican. See our guide to Vatican Museums tickets or our comparison of St Peter’s Basilica and dome tours. The Pantheon, run by the same office, has its own rules, explained in our Pantheon tickets guide.
